Evolution is clearly not just a theory, as visitors at Zhengzhou Zoo in Central China were able to witness an episode of ‘Prison Break’ where the glass-walled enclosure of a monkey was broken by it using a stone, surprising both the visitors and itself.
The Daily Mail reported that a tourist called Mr. Wang said that “the monkey was sharpening the stone, then it started hitting it on the glass. The monkey scared itself away, but it came back to take another look and even touched it.”
Interestingly, this particular monkey is “unlike other monkeys. This one knows how to use tools to break walnuts. When we feed walnuts to other monkeys, they only know to bite it. But it had never hit the glass before though. This is the first time. It’s toughened glass, so it would never have got out. After it happened, we picked up all the rocks and took away all its ‘weapons’”.
However, monkeys are not the only animals that have a hunch as to what can be used as tools. Apparently, chimpanzees too employ stones and come up with spears to hunt prey, while crows can be seen using twigs and their own feathers as tools.
