Joaquin Phoenix Wins Best Actor Oscar For 'Joker'

The 92nd Academy Awards brings the first Oscar win for Joker star Joaquin Phoenix. As everyone anticipated Phoenix won from many favorites including Adam Driver and Leonardo DiCaprio.


The Joker movie is about the origin of DC villain who is a depressed failing stand up comedian with a disorder that causes him to burst into uncontrollable laughter.

Phoenix has been winning all major awards for the role, winning the best actor at the BAFTAS, The Critics’ Choice Award and at the Golden Globes Award. Though he has been previously nominated for two Oscar Awards for Walk the Line in 2006 and The Master in 2013, this has been his first.

Phoenix lately has been using the stage to converse important social issues involving human conflicts and misusing natural resources also emphasizing cruelty involving dairy farming.

He has been very emotional during his previous award speeches where he also emotionally concluded his Oscar speech quoting “Run to the rescue with love, and peace will follow” a verse by his late brother, River.
