When under lockdown, you feel like there’s not a lot that you can do, right? Well, there are several things that you can actually do to take away your boredom and make the best out of this situation. Keep scrolling down!
1. Spread positivity and hope
While being under lockdown., when all you hear about these days is COVID19 death tolls and so on, it does not lift up your mood. If anything, it only makes you feel down. Most people are not used to being home for so long. Even the most introverted people go out of the house at least once or twice a month. So, obviously, this time is hard on every one of us. To make others as happy as you can, or at least to keep everyone sane, we need to spread positive thoughts and create hope in people’s minds. Be it through writing, speeches, or music, you can share them online for everyone to view and make their days brighter.
Where there are people, there’s always hope. Even in times of a global pandemic. Because our common humanity unites us all ? pic.twitter.com/eBr3stPxja

If you aren’t good at any of the above, well, there’s still stuff you could do. Try to limit the spread of misinformation about the situation, and share reliable source like the WHO, so that people won’t panic.
2. Learn something new, increase your knowledge
You’ve got all the time in the world these days to do anything and everything you’ve always wanted to do but couldn’t find time for! Go for it! Keep away your mobile phones. It’ll also take your mind off negative news. Learn that language you always wanted to speak, take that online course you’ve always loved, do that thing you’ve always wanted. You’ve more than enough time now.
Check out these free online courses by Harvard. You can even get a certificate upon completion! Head to YouTube and you’ll find a tone of tutorials on basically anything and everything, there too. Use this time you’ve been given, well.
3. Take part in good causes.
If you’ve always wanted to help bring justice to everyone, and didn’t know where to start, here’s something you can do.
There’s a lot of violence and abuse going on all over the world in relation to both humans and animals. We might not be able to actively engage in the field, in hunting down the abusers and bringing justice to the victims. But, we can do our part in signing online petitions. There’s a lot of such sites, and here are a few you can check out.
4. Act the responsible citizen you are
Now, more than at any time, we need to act responsible. A little mishap or selfishness of our side can result in devastating consequences to our loved ones. Make sure that you follow all the health guidelines published by WHO. make sure that your loved ones follow them too. Be a helping hand to those in need (mental support, financial needs). If there are elderly or sick people around you, offer to help them by doing their grocery shopping. Through little acts, you can do a lot of good during this difficult situation. Finally, whatever you do, stay safe!
I have been a passionate reader, writer and language learner since a child, and I ended up graduating from University of Peradeniya with a BA (Hons) in English. I am also a JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) Level N2 holder. I have 5+ years experience in content writing/editing, and also 5+ months experience in official/business translation in Sinhala Japanese and English Japanese.
Anyway, the boring stuff aside, during my free time, I sing, play a little bit of guitar, read, draw/paint, bake and play video games.
