This Hotel Lets Guests Foster Dogs During Their Stay, And At Least 33 Of Them Have Been Adopted Afterward

I must admit, staying at a hotel can get pretty boring. The loneliness kicks in and boom! A doggy!

Wait, where did the dog come from?

Imagine walking into a pretty hotel room and a furry little fluff ball is waiting at your doorstep. Unlike other hotels, this particular hotel in Mississippi discovered a tactical way to add some TLC for their guests at their stay as well as the pooch.

When traveling, many look for lodgings that are pet-friendly, but it is not as easy as one might think given that many lodgings don’t have that option. Yet, the hotel Home2 Suites by Hilton Biloxi North/D’lberville encourages a pet-friendly environment through the operation of the program “Fostering Hope”. This program brings shelter dogs from the Humane Society of South Mississippi to the Hotel’s lobby, offering guests the opportunity to Foster the fluffy pups in their room during their stay in the hotel.  Also, if the visitors truly loves the pooch, he/she can take it up for adoption on their checkout. All that the guest has to do is to fill up an application and pay a $50 adoption fee at the hotel. Isn’t this heaven for dog lovers?

This facilitates opening up more space for new dogs, roughly 8000 each year, out of which over 80% are adopted. This lets them fluffy, lonely pooches get love and care they deserve instead of being distant from everyone else and neglected. It gives a chance to the pooches to discover their new family and furthermore these puppies’ voice gets through to the people. The fact that the hotel provides extended stays, longer than a month or so, makes it exceptionally advantageous for the pooches to discover TLC and that too with various visitors, and hopefully a lasting family for them. This is the best option for these pooches rather than being in a canine pound.

“They have a lot of transient guests who stay for months at a time near our army and navy bases and that’s just enough time to fall in love with a dog,” Bianca Janik, the shelter’s relations manager, told USA TODAY.

This idea emerged from Teresa Johnston, the hotel’s Sales Director. Janik researched the hotel and decided it was an “ideal set-up” for a foster program.

“Teresa thought they needed to set their hotel apart and this was it. She wanted to have the business more involved with the community. It was a very out-of-the-box way to find our animals’ new homes so we were on board,” Janik explained.

“We have a very open adoption program,” Janik said. “People are trying to do the right thing by adopting. We reserve the right to deny. (We) may tell them we don’t feel comfortable, come visit our shelter tomorrow and we’ll find one that is right

During the adoption, The hotel ensures that the pooches are sent home with all the present clinical records, vaccines and so forth to assure the visitors of the mutt’s wellbeing and advise further medicine guidelines if necessary.
