The Odessa Police Department in Texas was going about their usual daily routine when a dog casually came running inside the department, looking up above the counter.
The dog was welcomed to the department by Sergeant Rusty Marin, and he appeared not a bit worried about being away from home. Instead, he happened to take away the work stress of the officers while enjoying the time there himself.
Martin told The Dodo: We were all excited to have him in the building. We had a tennis ball and threw it in the lobby for a bit. Everyone loved him.
The collar on the dog could have been helpful in finding his home if the ID tag hadn’t fallen off. This required animal control to look for a microchip.
Anyway, when the dog decided for himself that he was done being ‘missing’, he returned home at the same speed he came there, all by himself.
The police department was glad to receive a call from the dog’s owners the following day who confirmed the dog’s safe return home. His name is Chico and resides 1.6 km from the station.
